From the 18th century to the early 20th century, the territory ruled by Britain crossed the seven continents of the world. It was the most powerful country and the largest colonial empire in the world at that time. Its colonial area was 111 times the size of that of its own land, claiming that it never fell. Victory took place in both world wars, but state power was severely damaged. 

By the second half of the 20th century the British Empire was dissolved and the status of capitalist world hegemony was replaced by the United States. However, Britain is still a large country with huge influence around the world.

Britain is a highly developed capitalist country and one of the four major economies in Europe.

 Its citizens have a high standard of living and a good social security system. 

As a member of the Commonwealth heads of state, the G-8 members, the founding member of the NATO, 

Britain is also one of the five permanent members of the UN Security Council.
